The Northern Journal of Medical Sciences

The Northern Journal of Medical Sciences (NJMS) is an open-access journal that publishes top-tier medical research quarterly. It covers a wide range of topics in clinical and basic sciences, as well as medical education. Our editorial board is composed of experts from diverse fields who ensure the quality and integrity of the research we publish. We use a digital submission system for efficient processing and accept various types of submissions, including research articles, reviews, and case reports.

We have a few submission guidelines. We do not accept studies older than five years or multiple studies from the same project. The views expressed in the articles are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the policies of NJMS or its affiliated institutions. Before submitting, authors should review our guidelines and familiarize themselves with the submission process.

We encourage authors to contact us via email with any questions or contributions, as part of our mission to promote medical research and education. Before submitting, make sure to complete our article submission tutorial, review the author guidelines, and have all required documents ready.

NJMS evaluates submitted manuscripts based on several key criteria:

  1. Adherence to Academic Standards: Research must meet rigorous academic standards and contribute to the advancement of medical science.
  2. Novelty and Significance: The manuscript should present original research or insights that add meaningful value to the field.
  3. Methodological Rigor: The study design, data collection, and analysis must be methodologically sound and appropriate for the research question.
  4. Ethical Conduct: Studies involving human or animal subjects must adhere to ethical guidelines and obtain necessary approvals.
  5. Clear and Organized Reporting: Manuscripts should be well-structured, including a clear hypothesis, methodology, results, and discussion.
  6. Appropriate and Relevant References: Manuscripts must cite relevant and up-to-date literature to place the work within the broader context of medical research.
  7. Compliance with Journal Policies: Manuscripts must comply with NJMS's policies, including those related to patient privacy, conflicts of interest, and submission requirements.
  8. Language and Presentation: Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English to facilitate understanding by the readership.

NJMS also has specific methodological rigor requirements for published studies:

Study Design: The design must be appropriate and well-justified for the research question. Experimental and clinical studies should adhere to established frameworks, while observational and descriptive studies should clearly define the population, sampling methods, and data collection procedures.

Data Collection: Methods must be clearly described and demonstrate reliability and validity. For studies involving human participants, protocols must be approved by the appropriate ethics review board. For studies using secondary data, the quality and representativeness must be evaluated.

Statistical Analysis: Analyses must be appropriate for the study design and objectives. The analysis plan should include relevant statistical tests with justification for their selection. Statistical assumptions must be examined, and any violations or limitations addressed. The treatment of missing data and potential sources of bias should be clearly explained.

Reporting of Results: Results should be presented clearly and concisely, aligned with the stated objectives. Appropriate measures of effect size, confidence intervals, and p-values should be reported. Sensitivity analyses or additional robustness checks may be required to demonstrate reliability.

Interpretation and Limitations: The interpretation of results must be thorough, balanced, and aligned with the data. The discussion should acknowledge study limitations, including potential sources of bias and generalizability concerns. Authors must contextualize findings within the existing literature and highlight implications for clinical practice or future research.

By adhering to these rigorous methodological requirements, NJMS ensures the publication of high-quality, reliable, and impactful medical research that advances the field.
